Steffen Oppel - Conservation Scientist / Ornithologist
I work as an ornithological scientist at the Swiss Ornithological Institute where I study the ecology and dispersal of raptors. Before moving to Switzerland in 2023, I worked as a scientist at the RSPB Centre for Conservation Science to save globally threatened species, and I continue this role in a voluntary capacity
The goal of my work is to achieve effective conservation of threatened species and their habitats through a thorough understanding of their ecology and demography and ensure that management measures are based on solid evidence.
MY LATEST RESEARCH
In December 2024 we celebrated the 20 year anniversary of the seabird tracking database - a great repository that fosters collaboration for the conservation of seabirds around the world.
