Steffen Oppel - Conservation Scientist / Ornithologist
I worked as conservation scientist at the RSPB Centre for Conservation Science to save globally threatened species, but in May 2023 I moved to the Swiss Ornithological Institute where I study the ecology of Red Kites.
The goal of my work is to achieve effective conservation of threatened species and their habitats through a thorough understanding of their ecology and demography and ensure that management measures are based on solid evidence.
MY LATEST RESEARCH
In April 2024 we showed in a new paper that the greatest cause of mortality for large soaring birds from 45 species along the European-African flyway is due to human activities and infrastructure.
